Cycling Without Age

Cycling Without Age” – Meet social entreprenuer Ole Kassow

Cycling Without Age is coming to Singapore, and its founder Ole Kassow will be at Shimano Cycling World to talk about his experiences since starting this initiative three years ago.

Date: Saturday, 4th July
Time: 1500h

Cycling is a very popular activity in Denmark. The Danish landscape is characterised by flat arable land and sandy coastlines, excellant backdrops for bicycle tours. Many ride as a form of commute, and also exercise.

Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a rickshaw, and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents. Because of Ole, municipalities in several cities across Denmark have now bought rickshaws for their nursing homes and a network of volunteers offer residents the opportunity to venture outside and feel the wind in their hair. This meeting of generations provides a unique opportunity for the elderly to share their stories and experiences, which are often triggered by these trips out into the local environment.

In this talk, Ole will be sharing pictures from a recent long ride from Denmark to Norway with 40 elderly passengers and a bunch of volunteer riders, amongst other things. After the talk, there’ll be a workshop for potential riders, where you can experience how to use the rickshaw.

Cycling Without Age is a non profit organisation and they’re raising funds to get more bikes to the world. This event is free; however, please consider to contribute to their Indigogo campaign:
