Singapore Cycle Safe Ambassador (Level 1 & 2)

Overview
The Ambassador course aims to equip you with the necessary skills and cycle safe knowledge. As an advocate of the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 1 & 2) programme, you are expected to actively promote safe cycling awareness. This course would cover safe cycling within the Park Connector Networks (PCN).Course Suited for
Parents, Lead Cyclists, Teachers, Community Sport Leaders, Cycling Safety Marshalls, School Leaders, Bicycle retailer, Event Planners.

Course Details
This is a 9-hour course. By the end of the Ambassador’s course (Level 1 & 2), Ambassadors are expected to deliver cycle safe talks to increase awareness on safe cycling within the PCN. This will be primarily delivered in a classroom setting with some elements of practical application.

Post Course Assignments/Appointments with SCF
Upon certification, each Ambassador will be competent with cycle safe knowledge within the PCN and be able to promote cycle safe awareness. From time to time you may be invited to deliver safe cycling awareness talks and briefings at cycling events.

Singapore Cycle Safe Ambassador (Level 3 & 4)

Overview
. The Ambassador course aims to equip you with the necessary skills and cycle safe knowledge. Singapore Cycle Safe Trainer
(Level 1 & 2)

Overview
The Trainer course aims to equip you with the competencies to conduct the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 1 & 2) certification programme. This would cover cycling within the Park Connector Networks and learning how to cycle for beginners.Course Suited for
All coaches, Physical Education Teachers and Instructors.

Course Details
This is a 24-hour course. By the end of the Trainer’s course, trainers are expected to confidently deliver the Singapore Cycle Safe Level 1 & 2 certification programme This course will be primarily delivered in an outdoor practical setting with some elements of theory. By the end of the course, SCF will identify Mentor-Trainers who can potentially guide other Trainers and provide valuable peer feedback.

Course Pre-requisites

  • Any of the following: Bachelor of Education, Diploma or Degree in Sports Science/Sports Coaching, Level 1 Coaching certification of any Sport. Others with evidence of coaching/teaching/instructing in an existing sports setting maybe considered (i.e. Outward Bound Singapore Instructor, Fitness Instructor etc).
  • 18 years of age and above
  • Possess a valid standard first aid certification
  • Demonstrate the basic competency of riding a bicycle safely through a 10 meter straight line course.

From time to time, you will also be invited to contribute to teach skills or build safe cycling awareness at cycling events.

Singapore Cycle Safe Trainer
(Level 3 & 4)

Overview
The Level 3 & 4 Trainer course aims to equip you with the competencies to conduct the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 3 & 4) certification programme. This would cover cycling on Singapore Roads and during a cycling event. By the end of the course, SCF will identify Mentor-Trainers who can potentially guide other Trainers and provide valuable peer feedback.Course Suited for
All coaches, Physical Education Teachers and Instructors.

Course Details
This is a two and a half day course. By the end of the Trainer’s course, Trainers are expected to confidently deliver the Singapore Cycle Safe Level 3 & 4 certification programme. This course will be primarily delivered in an outdoor practical setting with some elements of theory.

Singapore Cycle Safe Level 1 & 2 Trainer Certification

Level 1 Coach

Overview
The Level 1 Coach certification will equip you with the competencies to conduct the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 1 & 2) certification programmes and developmental training programmes for the various cycling disciplines (Track, Road, Mountain Bike, BMX).On successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a SG-Coach integrated certificate jointly issued by Sport Singapore and SCF. Additionally and as a good practice, Coaches are encouraged to enroll in the National Registry Of Coaches.Course Suited for
All cycling enthusiasts, current and ex-national cyclists, coaches, Physical Education Teachers and Instructors.

Course Details
This is a 10 day course. By the end of the course, , coaches are expected to confidently deliver the Singapore Cycle Safe Level 1 & 2 certification programme and conduct developmental training programmes for national level competitions. This course will be delivered with a mix of practical and theory elements. During the course, SCF will identify Mentor-Coaches who can guide other coaches and provide valuable peer feedback.

Course Pre-requisites

  • 18 years of age and above
  • Demonstrate the basic competency of riding a bicycle safely through a 10 meter straight line course.

Participants whose assessments are deemed as being “NYC” must demonstrate the acquisition and application of the necessary competencies with SCF during the 30 -hour post course attachment.
Accreditation –  Foreign  Level 1  Coaching Certification (Cycling)
For coaches with a foreign Level 1 Coaching certification in cycling, you may wish to consider applying for accreditation and to secure a local certification. You will be required to submit your coaching certification(s) and complete the list of assessments for SCF Level 1 accreditation and certification. You will also be required to attend the Values and Principles, Sport Development Systems modules, and any other modules deemed necessary by SCF and /or Sport Singapore.

Post Course Assignments/Appointments
On your successful completion of the course, you can start coaching individual or groups and can be appointed to deliver and certify the Singapore Cycle Safe Level 1 & 2 programme either through SCF or an accredited training partner.

From time to time, you may be invited to share your knowledge and experience at sharing platforms, coaching workshops, seminars or provide coaching tips at cycling events.

Level 2 Coach (Road & Track / MTB & BMX)

Overview
The Level 2 Coach certification will equip you with the competencies to conduct the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 3 & 4) certification programmes and developmental training programmes to prepare national level cyclists for competitions within to the region, either for Road & Track OR Mountain Bike and Bicycle Motorcross. On conclusion of the course, the participant will receive a SG-Coach integrated certificate jointly issued by Sport Singapore and SCF. Additionally, and as a good practice, Coaches are encouraged to enroll in the National Registry Of Coaches.Course Suited for
All cycling enthusiasts, current and ex-national cyclists, coaches, Physical Education Teachers and Instructors.

Level 3 Coach (Road & Track / Mountain Bike & Bicycle Motorcross)

Overview
The Level 3 Coach certification will equip you with the competencies to conduct the Singapore Cycle Safe (Level 3 & 4) certification programmes and developmental training programmes for competitions at the Asian Games/Championship level or its equivalent,  or specific to either (Road and Track) OR (Mountain Bike and Bicycle Motorcross). On conclusion of the course, the participant will receive a SG-Coach integrated certificate jointly issued by Sport Singapore and SCF. Additionally, and as a good practice, Coaches are encouraged to enroll in the National Registry Of Coaches.NOTE: The UCI Coaching Diploma is offered only at the World Cycling Centre and more information can be found on the UCI website.

Course Suited for
All cycling enthusiasts, current and ex-national cyclists, coaches, Physical Education Teachers and Instructors.

Course Details
The Course duration will be determined at a later stage.

By the end of the Course coaches are expected to confidently plan, conduct and review multi-year training programmes in preparation for Asian Games/Championship type of competitions, or its equivalent. This course will be delivered with a mix of practical and theory elements. During the course, SCF will identify Mentor-Coaches who can guide other coaches and provide valuable peer feedback.

Course Pre-requisites

  • Level 2 Cycling Coach Certification
  • Advance Sport Science certification by Sport Singapore OR the Equivalent (to be confirmed)
  • Applicants for the UCI Coaching Diploma Course must be nominated by SCF

Alternatively, you may volunteer your coaching services to the SCF as part of a Year-long Training Cycle including training sessions of at least once per week and for a duration of 3 months leading up to a pre-agreed competition. The Annual Training Plan is to be drafted and co-planned in consultation with SCF’s Head Coach (subject to the suitability of the coach and his ability to contribute positively towards an SCF National Training Programme).

Not Yet Competent (NYC)
Participants whose assessments are deemed as being “NYC” must demonstrate the necessary acquisition and application of competencies with SCF during the 50 – hour post course attachment.
Accreditation – Foreign  Level 3 Coaching Certification (Cycling)

Acknowledgements
This document is developed by the Singapore Cycling Federation’s Sport and Technical Manager, Samuel Yang. He is a former National Cyclist and National Champion for Road and Mountain Bike. While completing his Sports Science degree in Perth, Western Australia, Samuel began Youth coaching for the Northern Districts Cycling Club. Upon returning to Singapore, he coached a junior cyclists to eventually be crowned as a National Junior Champion, culminating in his selection and participation at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore. Samuel was an academic staff at Republic Polytechnic where in 2011, he developed the syllabus for the Cycling Level 1 Coaching Certification in Programme, for the then Singapore Amateur Cycling Association (now known as the Singapore Cycling Federation). Samuel was subsequently part of a team that initiated a review of the National Coaching Accreditation Programme for Singapore Sport Council in 2012 (now known as Sport Singapore).

What is NROC?

In Singapore to claim to be a ‘Coach’ recognized by the Singapore Sports Council you must be trained and certified. Coaches that meet all the criteria are termed NROC (National Registry of Coaches) certified. The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) maintains a listing of these coaches. The Coaches above have been duly certified. To remain on the list they need to continually upgrade their skills.

In addition there are Cycling coaches that are Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme  certified. The SG-Coach Programme replaces the National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP).

Integrated NCAP Cycling Certification

The Singapore Cycling Federation offers an integrated coaching course that is specific for Cycling, which ascertains that its graduates have fulfilled the minimum criteria that entitle them to the relevant NCAP levels of coaching accreditation.

At present, SCF offers the Level 1 Integrated NCAP programme, which incorporates BOTH Theory and Practical assessments and components.

The UCI Coaching Diploma – What is it?

The UCI Coaching Diploma is the highest Cycling Coaching qualification available and requires the coach to Display excellent Coaching Skills.

It is only awarded by the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) after an intensive course at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland.
