OCBC CYCLE NATIONAL RANKING AND POINTS SYSTEM – MOUNTAIN BIKE (MTB)
The Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF) is pleased to announce that the OCBC CycleNational Ranking and Points System for mountain bike events will be introduced for 2017, as part of a strategic objective to enhance the vibrancy of the local events eco-system. Points acquired will count towards a National Ranking by the end of the local racing season.
The OCBC Cycle National Ranking and Points System are intended to achieve the following:
- Increase opportunities for more winners and reasons to celebrate ;
- Encourage participation in multiple events in any one local racing season ;
- Complement SCF’s existing Athlete Selection Policy and thereby, ensure that the process of athlete selection for overseas competitions and Major Games remains robust and objective.
The OCBC Cycle National Ranking and Points System for Road were reviewed at the end of the 2016 season with enhancements for the 2017 season. These include:
- award for highest ranked Singaporean team/club
- awards for highest ranked Singaporean in the men’s and women’s open categories
- presentation of prizes for the highest ranked Singaporean in the men’s and women’s open categories
Individual rankings and points will be awarded in the following14categories.That is, seven (7) categories for men and,seven (7) categories for women.

**No ranking points will be awarded in the Youth (12 years and under) and Sports Categories. . For the Sports Category, it will be for anyone from 13 years old and above. If the confirmed participation numbers in the Sports Category, for any one event for those between 13 and 18 years of age, is 15 or more, the SCF in consultation with the event organiser will split the Sports Category into a Sports A (19 years of age and above) and B Category (13 to 18 years of age). Do, however, note that the final decision on this will be made taking into consideration the event schedule and time available for the completion of all race categories.
Age is determined by the present year minus the year of birth of the competitor (i.e. 2017 minus 2000 is 17 years).
To Start a Race – Minimum number of registered cyclist or team per event category
In order for an event category to “start,” there will no longer be a requirement for a minimum of three (3) cyclists or teams in that category. Even if there is only one (1) registered cyclist or team, arrangements will be made for this cyclist or team to start in an appropriate “wave” of cyclists. A medal will also be presented to the lone registered cyclist or team who completes the race.
In the event where we have two, or more, cyclists and teams vying for the same position with a similar number of points, the eventual ranking will be based on the greatest number of 1st places on the individual ranking. Should a tie still occur, it will be based on the greatest number of 2nd places, then 3rd places, etc.Only places for which SCF ranking points are allocated will be taken into consideration.
Team Ranking (Best Team and Best Singaporean Team)
The team rankings shall be obtained by adding the points of the team’sfour (4) best placed cyclists in the individual rankings in the current year. The following Table provides an illustration as to how points will be computed:

Determining Best Singaporean Team
Best Singaporean team shall be obtained by adding together the points of their four (4) highest ranked cyclists in the individual ranking in the current year.
Cyclists are permitted to change team names anytime during the season, however no transfer of individual cyclist points will be permitted to be brought forward to the new team during the season.
Change of Team Name
Teams are permitted to change their team name during the season. However, the SCF and the Event Organiser must be kept informed with at least one months’ notice, prior to the race/competition date.
At the end of the season, SCF or the Event Organiser shall award prizes* to the highest ranked individuals** and team/club, as well as the highest ranked Singaporean in the men’s open and highest ranked Singaporean in the women’s open categories and the highest ranked Singaporean team/club** . In addition, the SCF may award prizes to cyclists according to their classification.
A medal will be presented to a lone registered cyclist in an individual event or team, in a team event, who completes a particular race category. However, do note that, in order to be considered for the OCBC Cycle national ranking points at the end of the 2017 racing season, there must be a minimum of at least three (3) cyclists or teams registered, for a particular category, in at least two (2) SCF National ranked events.
Details of the prize presentation award ceremony will be communicated by SCF to all winners after the final event for the season.
(*) Cycosports will not be giving medals for Jungle Cross races, only trophies will be presented at the end of the year.
(**) To qualify as the highest ranked Singaporean team/club, all top four (4) ranked Singaporean cyclists from that club must have at least 1 ranking point for the 2017 mountain bike season. In the event of a tie, only 1 prize (or trophy) will be awarded and this will have to be shared.
In the event of a tie in the individual categories, prizes will be presented to all the highest ranked athletes. Highest ranked Singaporean men’s and women’s categories will be also be awarded prizes.
National Champion Jersey
A National Champion jersey will be awarded to the winner in each category, except Youth and Sports, in the OCBC Cycle National MTB Championship. However, there must be at least three (3) participants in each of the category before the National Champion jersey will be awarded. In a situation where there is only one (1) participant, a medal will be awarded if the cyclist completes the race.
List of Competitions and Points scale
Points awarded for each of the following competitions will be communicated along with the full results at the end of each race.
